Designing a Career

Some people know from a young age what profession they will choose later in life. A biology teacher here at m hi h school told me "I knew from the age of five that I would end up teaching !" For these people, life! is less complicated than it is for those of us who have not yet pinned down precise career goals. Without clear goals, we may feel intimidated and confused by the huge variety and number of possible jobs. We find ourselves evaluating exactly where we'd like to be in five years, ten years, and eventually thirty years.

The search for a career is also a search for identity. For me, i know that I am interested in education and the arts. I believe I would find it stimulating to be either a teacher of young children or a screenwriter. These two very different professions interest me because of the mystery involved in each. Teachers are dedicated, respected, and intelligent adults who spread their knowledge to others in a classroom. As a teacher, I would aspire to be patient and help many people. In contrast, screenwriters are creativity factories, spewing out brilliant plots and storylines for televisions shows, movies, and commercials. I have really begun to admire the productivity and creativity of these professionals. These two specific professions have become intriguing to me. Through research. I have learned more about these careers and identified how I can prepare myself for each.

Teaching
The educational requirements for a teaching license vary from state to state. All states, however, require completion of a bachelor's degree and a teacher training program. I would not have to worry about job security, because there will always be a need for teachers. I see both advantages and disadvantages in a teaching career.
